Natural Remedies For Cough And Runny Nose


Cough is a kind of illness in which the person coughs repeatedly due to which there is also sometimes pain in chest and throat. Running nose is a mild and common illness which makes you sneeze a lot and gives you a sore throat and cough. A runny nose may not hurt, but it is certainly annoying. If you do not care properly, nasal discharge can lead to sinus problems, coughing as well as ear aches. A runny nose produces mucous dripping down the back of the throat and comes out of the nostrils. Around 3 quarts of mucous are produced on a daily basis by our body however; the quantity is increased to a large extent in case of runny nose.
                                  
Here are a few natural remedies for cough and runny nose which you can follow without the fear of any kind of side affects: 

Salt Water
The simplest way is to clear out mucous that cause a runny nose is to wash the nostrils with saltwater solution. For this, you need to dissolve a tablespoon of ordinary salt in eight ounces of warm water. After that, you take some water into a dropper and drop the solution into your nose. You should inhale very softly to draw the water and puff your nose to clear out any excess water and nasal discharge. 

Spicy Food
Spicy foods can work as a home remedy for a runny nose and Cough. Hot foods clear up nasal congestion and prove to be of great help in curing cough and runny nose. It increases nasal discharge by helping the body in flushing out the blockage and toxins. Spicy foods, particularly hot peppers and ginger, help increase breathing circulation. 

Mustard Oil
Simple and effective remedy for a runny nose is plain mustard oil. For this, you need to warm up some oil and take it in a dropper to put just a drop in one nostril. Give a minute or two to absorb, and then put oil in the other nostril. 

Turmeric
Turmeric is a traditional Indian medicine for curing runny nose. You can soak dry ground turmeric in linseed oil. After that, you need to warm up the solution and inhale the vapor through your nose. 

Prop up Your Head
Propping up your head while sleeping helps to get rid of running nose. This also helps the nasal discharge drain out instead of running down through your throat and causing coughing and ear aches. 

Eucalyptus Oil 
You can combine two drops of eucalyptus oil with one teaspoon of sunflower or olive oil and massage the mixture into your chest. It gives a lot of relief from cough and runny nose. 

Astragalus 
Astragalus is a traditional Chinese medicine and which is used for treating cold and runny nose. The plant has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. The root of this plant can be consumed in tea form. You can add 3 to 6 g of dried root to 12 oz of boiling water and take the mixture three times a day for getting relief from cough as well as runny nose. 

The best part is that all the above mentioned medicines are natural herbs which don’t have any side effects. However, if the problem doesn't reduce in 4-5 days, you must consult a doctor.
